Kick-Ass 2 Gotten The Green Light! Damn Right!

I don’t know about you but I certainly loved the film adaption of Mark Millar’s Kick-Ass comic-books. I certainly thought it connected well with hard-core comic fans and reasonably casual viewers alike — me being a mid-level comic nerd I loved it! I mean whats better than super-hereos than super-heroes that get there ass-kicked (pun #1) — and to add the rookie nature of every-day people going round kicking-ass (pun #2) only adds to the excellent feel and dynamic of the film.

What I loved about the comics, and in the film, is that it takes the road of a average ordinary teenager, Dave, who sets out to become a real-life superhero calling himself Kick-Ass and suiting up by night to fight crime and injustice — I mean you can’t tell me that you’ve never toyed with the idea of sporting a cape and spandex! Its a nerds dream! And to add the reasonable success of the film, a sequel has only been anticipated and viola!

Comic-book creator Miller stated that, while bragging on DVD sales for the first film that, a follow up to the film is in the cards and has been bathed in the glorious green-light! Talking to Bleeding Cool about the crazy amount of money he thinks may amount from the DVD and Blu-ray release of the film, blurted out that he will be working on a alternation of the film saying, “So It should be okay. So the sequel’s greenlit, we can go ahead and do the follow up now, you know. The first made so much compared to what it cost it would be crazy not to.”

It good news for fans that Miller will be working on Kick-Ass 2, and it has already received the green-light. The first Kick-Ass in most peoples books was a general box-office disappointment, only managing to rake in under $50 million domestically, but reached the $100 million mark internationally — trumping the production cost of $30 million. Which means that director Matthew Vaughn managed to make more than he payed to make the thing, and had some profit still left over! I can’t imagine it being allot, but apparently enough for a sequel to get the go-ahead — and thats what matters eh?

While on the subject of director Vaughn, it seems that he’s already jumped ship to another one of his directorial projects — being X-Men: First Class which he hasn’t been working on for long, so really a planned sequel now means that it will at least be a good few years down the pipeline — but remember this all rides on the fact of whether Miller has the story straight and isn’t just talking out of his Ass ( pun #3). Which everyone important seem to partake in every now and again, so don’t be too pumped – because I was at first glance –  even if Miller is telling the truth it may take years before we hear anything more than whispers and murmurs.

I can imagine a eventual sequel may start off where Kick-Ass ended, meaning comic-book styled nemesis Red Mist may take over his (deceased) fathers crime thrown and seek to take down Dave in a biblical fashion — which I wish wasn’t the logical starting off point because what I don’t want to see is another lame straight-to-dvd sequel that has minimal effort and even smaller ambition, because really Kick-Ass is better than that. Personally I would have left it to be a stand alone, but meh. Also it says on its official imdb page that the sequel will be titled thusly, Kick-Ass 2: Balls to the Wall — which is suiting if you think about it. But thats it from me and the likes of Kick-Ass 2, so stay tuned for more as it comes!
