The future of Ben Stiller really, really, ridiculously good looking male model Derek Zoolander has lately being looking a little bit grim, as Stiller himself has confessed through some very short and blunt Tweets saying any potential sequel is dead and would not get the funding it needed to lift of ground — much like Will Ferrell‘s Anchorman 2 which has been dead for quite some time. Stiller posted on his Twitter, saying “Ron Burgundy and Derek Zoolander looking to appear in sequels. Both men destitute, without means or intellect to fund their own comebacks.”
Its been 10 years since their last escapade, and male model Derek Zoolander‘s world has changed. Its a world where you don’t have to be hottie to be a model you just have to have a nice personality and good values — yeah right. But really with the idea of a sequel, what would it focus on? Personally I would go on the changes that have occured over his ten-year film absence and how he has changed from a dimwitted male-model to a dimwitted father and teacher. And heres the good news, although Stiller has previously said the sequel is dead, he and other seem now to say different!
Writer Justin Theroux has said that he is still working on the script and hadn’t heard anything of the sort that the film was kaput. And maybe with good reason, because according to some new reports Zoolander 2 is very much alive! This week on his Twitter account, Stiller, verified that a eventual Zoolander sequel was still very much alive.
Saying when asked about a sequel (on Twitter), “Yes. Working on it now with my buddy Justin.” And a interview with MTV revels that Stiller has more than a few ideas for the upcoming follow up, back in February Stiller said in an interview that he will focus on the changes that have occurred in the fashion industry in there absence, saying “In the fashion world, if you go away for a year, it’s changed — it just happens so quickly,” he said. “I think the idea in the beginning of the movie is that it’s 10 years later, and Derek and Hansel [Owen Wilson’s character] are literally forgotten. Nobody remembers who they are, so they have to reinvent themselves.”
But remember this is all before the tweets Stiller posted that it was dead, so really this isn’t much of a booster, as they have been working on it for awhile now — but its nice to have a bit of reassurance that everyones still interested and rooting for a follow up of the outrageously funny 2001 comedy. I know I am, and to be honest the sooner the better, because between you and me the latest comedies have been lacking quite a bit and not to pick on genres but Rom-Coms to be specific — Date Night is an example. It was a good cast, don’t get me wrong but it lacked in story and was a very american styled comedy…..which basically means it had very few laughs. So stay tuned for more in Zoolander 2!
