Piranha 3D Already Getting a Sequel!? Right On!

Well its just as much of a surprise to me as it seems to be with the studio, and following the recent release and surprised reception of Piranha 3D — it seems that they’re taking the positive reaction as a sign for a follow up. And according to some of the positive reviews – those being the specifically cropped critic screenings – only backs up the companies decision to sequelize.

Producer Mark Canton said that he was happy with the reactions for his film saying, “We are thrilled that audiences are not just loving Piranha 3-D, but cheering for it,” also stating that  “it’s fantastic that so many critics are really getting the movie and recommending it. We can’t wait to get to work on the sequel.”

What I liked about the film is that it didn’t try to hard to be a serious horror film, which we know well before the 3 minute under-water nude ballet scene which shows that Piranha 3D wasn’t going for something its not — something other horror B-movies should learn from.

So really Im not opposed to a sequel as far, but really how far can you get with a whole bunch of flesh-hungry Piranhas and naked babes……..seems pretty damn far. But what I hope for in a sequel is two things, one being bring: bring back (to the future) Christopher Lloyd and two shoot the damn thing in 3D! Rather than the seizure-inducing conversion that toke hold of us this time round.

So far we have no idea as to returning cast, but what we do know is that EW seems to think that director Alexandre Aja is up to directing the sequel. So that rules out James Cameron — but then again, nothings ever final eh? Stay tuned for more from Piranha 3D 2!
