Big news comes from the Star Wars Celebration V, with George Lucas announcing the release of a box-set containing all six live-action Star Wars films in Blu-ray disc — coming next year! IGN says that, the boxset will include “all six live-action Star Wars feature films, with the highest picture and audio quality,” also including, “documentaries, vintage behind-the-scenes moments, interviews, retrospectives and never-before-seen footage from the Lucasfilm archives.”
Although this has been highly anticipated by Blu-ray owners and fans alike, its still good to hear we will be seeing the Jedi Knights on hi-def screens soon — so the galaxy isn’t so far, far away? Eh? At the event, Lucas revealed a deleted scene from Return Of The Jedi, which will be included in the box-set showing Luke Skywalker assembling his lightsaber, and stashing it away in R2D2’s dome before infiltrating Jabba the Hutt’s palace — the scene contains full effects because it was cut right before the final edit of the film. Which can be seen below.
Lucas said that for the Blu-ray box-set he will be releasing the remastered special editions of each film, opposed to the original trilogy films because of the difference in quality — so although we love the originals its nice to know we will be getting superior quality. Lucas saying, “Releasing the originals is kind of an oxymoron because the quality of the original is not very good. You have to go through and do a whole restoration on it, and you have to do that digitally. It’s a very, very expensive process to do it. So when we did the transfer to digital, we only transferred really the upgraded version.”
So keep a keen eye out for more news on this, and I will try and get some more figures as to price and that kind of stuff. But as for Star Wars on Blu-ray thats it from me. Stay tuned for more as it comes!
