It has been revealed that Hulk actor Edward Norton will not be pursued after his role in 2008’s Incredible Hulk for Joss Whedon‘s Avengers team up in 2012.
Hitflix reports that Norton has officially be dropped for Whedon’s Avengers movie — in nicer words he will not be “pursued” for the film. How sad. And for an unknown. Apparently Whedon and Norton sat down awhile ago and discussed the role and left happy for the film, but now Marvel had dropped him.
I myslef didn’t care to much for Norton or his predecessor Eric Banner for the role of — Eric Banner. Both films seemed to fall short of the comic acclaim, but if anyone was to proceed for the Avengers spot I would have thought Norton would be the one. And after the conclusion of the last film The Incredible Hulk (starring norton), everyone sort of assumed he would be taken up on the role but no.
Reportadly the role of the Hulk was never meant for Norton, with apparent disagreements even before the release of the film between Marvel and Norton. Basically he wanted it one way, and Marvel wanted it another. And now Marvel is heading in their direction, with nothing but scorn to say of the matter. Saying that the actor for the Hulk should be, “an actor who embodies the creativity and collaborative spirit.” Bitter.
After the royal sacking Norton’s agent has sent a message to the media saying, “this past Wednesday, after several weeks of civil, uncontentious discussions, but before we had come to terms on a deal, a representative from Marvel called to say they had decided to go in another direction with the part. This seemed to us to be a financial decision but, whatever the case, it is completely their prerogative, and we accepted their decision with no hard feelings.”
