Well it’s clear that the character of Professor Moriarty will play a greater part in Guy Ritchie’s second Sherlock Holmes movie, as at the end of the first Moriaty made off with a piece of Lord Backwood’s machine and it was revealed in a very Batman Begins style that a body had been found in a sewer — presumably killed by Moriarty. Although we see very little of Moriarty in the film, it has been rumored that Snatch co-star Brad Pitt will be playing the Professor — but some how I doubt the likelihood. But Superhero Hype seems to think different.
Superhero Hype is reporting a rumor that director Guy Ritchie is seeking out Daniel Day Lewis for the role of the mysterious professor, but this is all according to “unconfirmed sources” so don’t get to excited. It would hardly be Day Lewis first attempt at being the bad guy as he has previously done so well in There Will Be Blood and Gang’s of New York. While my hopes are high for such casting I some how doubt it as he is a man of choice, only having done 18 films in his career in the film industry — the latest being Nine (not that great). But still if there would be a time to pray, now would be the time.
Ritchie has set a December 16th, 2011 release but as he is yet to produce a actual script I would say early 2012 realistically. As always stay tuned for more as we hear it.
