It has been reported by The Playlist that Machete director and Predators producer Robert Rodriguez has been offered directing duties for 20th Century Fox Spin-off character Deadpool, starring Ryan Reynolds who played the character in X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
Production Weekly first reported Rodriguez’s potential involvement in production, and was then confirmed by The Playlist. Although I am very wary of this type of stories, and for obvious reasons. But as far as directors go I would say that in this type of productions I can very much see Rodriguez getting the part — still I wouldn’t believe everything you hear. Also it has been said that Rodriguez is so far only been offered the directorial role and is only considering the part. Offers have been plentiful for Rodriguez, as he was also offered their Planet of the Apes prequel which is now in the hands of Rupert Wyatt.
So far star Ryan Reynolds is still attached to the project — despite his involvement in DC’s Green Lantern — with Zombieland combo Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick penning the script (already written by the way). Plus as a added bonus this time round they may be considering ignoring the slight against all good comics known as X-Men Origins: Wolverine and creating a separate universe. So looking good so far.
