Paramount has confirmed a spin-off film for Tom Cruise‘s lovable yet foul-mouhted mega producer character Les Grossman from Tropic Thunder – who we reported reprised the role for the MTV Movie Awards last weekend appearing ing in a few promos and sketches. When you think of Cruise as an actor I often only see him in these over the top action films – but here he is as Les Grossman a foul-mouthed, violent bad-ass. This is Cruise at his best, and after seeing him as Grossman in the MTV Movie Awards only reminds me of how perfect he is for the role.
A spin-off has been rumored ever since it was learned that he would be appearing in the awards show. And now Cruise has come out and said “We’re working on it,” we must start looking at getting as much information as we can about the film. Both Cruise, and Apocalypse Now spoof director Ben Stiller will be working together for the new project. Apparently Cruise will produce it and Stiller (as well as directing) will help write the screenplay, as well as Michael Bacall who will write the film.
Treating the Grossman character as a real person, Stiller has said in a statement for the studio: “Les Grossman’s life story is an inspiring tale of the classic human struggle to achieve greatness against all odds. He has assured me he plans to, quote, ‘F***ing kill the sh**t out of this movie and make Citizen f***ing Kane look like a piece of c**p home movie by the time we are done.’ I am honoured to be working with him.”
President of Paramount Pictures Adam Goodman added: “Everything I learned in this business, I’ve learned from Les. I started out as his assistant, and from the first day he threw his desk at me when I got his lunch order wrong, I have loved him like a father. I am forever grateful to Ben and Stuart Cornfeld and their ability to secure his highly-coveted life rights.”
Now personally I think this is going to be AWSOME but not everyone can agree, stay tuned for more info as we get it. You can view a video of the man himself below – if it hasn’t been canceled.
