Dark, Edgy Snow White In 3D..hmmm

Deadline Hollywood reports Brett Ratner will be joining Relativity Media to produce The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, about well….you get the picture. Also screenwriter Melisa Wallack, who wrote and directed the 2007 Indie film Bill wrote a “edgy 3-D re-imagining”, which by all means we can look forward to a screwing over of a classic fairytale. Plus we have a quote from Ratner:

“This is not your grandfather’s Snow White. Melisa went back to the 500 year old folk tale and put in some of the things that were missing from Walt Disney’s film. His dwarves were miners, and here they are robbers. There is also a dragon that was in the original folk tale. Walt made one of the great movies of all time, but ours is edgy and there is more comedy. The original, made for its time, was soft compared to what we’re going to do.”

This sounds like a joke to me, I mean robbing dwarves!? Come on. Also with what Ratner says about ‘the original’ is quote, “soft compared to what we’re going to do” is because it was a children’s movie! Seriously if there was ever a time to cap these kind of films, now would be the time. But its clear that there is a demographic that would love to see this kind of film, like Tim Burton‘s Alice In Wonderland (which is also thought was a little over hyped) which proved there is a large population that do like the darker twists on classic fairytales. Just not me.
